Modern eCommerce platform digitizing the wedding invitation experience, enabling couples to personalize traditional boxed invitations, artist-designed cards, and digital invites.
The Challenge
PaperDate Co. was selling beautifully crafted wedding invitations through Instagram DMs and WhatsApp — a process that didn't scale and created constant back-and-forth over customization details. Couples couldn't see personalized previews before ordering, and the manual process made it impossible to forecast inventory or run promotions efficiently. They needed a full eCommerce platform that could handle product variants, let buyers personalize text and design elements, and support both physical product orders and instantly deliverable digital invitations in one storefront.
Our Solution
We built a Shopify store with a custom product personalization engine as the centerpiece. Buyers can choose from artist-designed templates, adjust text blocks (names, dates, venue details), toggle between color schemes, and see a live preview rendered in the browser before adding to cart. Physical boxed sets and digital-only packs are handled as separate product types with different fulfillment paths — physical orders trigger a print-ready file generation step, while digital orders deliver a high-resolution PDF via automated email. An artist submission portal allows PaperDate Co. to onboard new designers and preview how their designs render with sample text.
Our Approach
Product Personalization Engine
Built a canvas-based preview tool using Fabric.js that renders editable text and decorative elements over high-resolution design templates. Changes update in real time and the finalized configuration is serialized into the cart metadata for downstream processing.
Dual Fulfillment Architecture
Designed separate fulfillment flows for print and digital orders. Physical orders trigger a PDF generation step that embeds buyer customization and sends print-ready files to the production team. Digital orders are immediately fulfilled post-payment via an automated email with download links.
Shopify Store & Content Management
Set up a Shopify store with custom metafields to store template configurations per product. Built a lightweight admin interface for the PaperDate team to upload new artist designs, tag them by style, and publish them to collections without needing developer intervention.
Checkout Optimization & Launch
Simplified the checkout to three steps, added Razorpay UPI support for Indian buyers, and implemented abandoned cart email sequences through Klaviyo. Ran a beta with 30 real wedding couples in the week before launch to validate the personalization flow under real usage conditions.
